The falls and crackers at the end of the bullwhip can be replaced.  Crackers are attached to the fall of the bullwhip.  Bullwhip crackers can be easily replaced without needing the assistance of a specialist.  However, it is important to note that the thickness and weight of the fall will determine how the cracker will be attached.  Proper technique such as trimming the edge of the fall after the cracker is attached will help to prevent the cracker from falling off while the whip is in use.  The cracker in a whip allows it produce the loud sound that is associated with bullwhips and without a cracker or fall attached to the whip, the rest of the whip will quickly deteriorate.

Repairing the falls, crackers or poppers on the whips is more cost-effective than replacing the entire whip.  It is also possible to buy nylon thread rolls and actually make the poppers that go on the whip falls.  Upholstery thread may also be used to make whip poppers. Ensuring that falls are promptly replaced when necessary will ensure that the braided thong of the whip is protected, especially for whips that are very expensive or have fancy braiding.  The joy of using a bullwhip is in being able to get the fall and cracker to make the required impact or movement.

There are bullwhip designs that are specifically geared for fall and cracker replacement.  This maintenance strategy should be noted when making bullwhip purchases and steps should be taken to regularly acquire and replace the specified components.  The falls and crackers are essential parts of the whip and should be replaced as needed.

There are also bullwhip maintenance kits that may be supplied with new bullwhips or purchased separately.  Such kits can contain leather dressing and replacement falls or crackers for the tip of the whip.  The falls and crackers take on the impact of the whip as it is released and this makes these components more susceptible to damage and wear.  As the fall or cracker wears away, it gets shorter and shorter.  These components can also stretch or get thinner till breakage occurs.  Using a bullwhip without the fall or crackers can damage the whip because the braided section takes on much of the impact.  With the fall and cracker, the bullwhip will also be less optimal.  Hence, these sections of the whip should be replaced as needed.

Bullwhip maintenance kits can also contain multi-purpose tools which can be used to repair bullwhips or keep the whips in good shape.  These tools include wire cutters, nylon belt sheaths, pliers and wire strippers.  Cleaning brushes, leather conditioners, cleaning cloths and reference guides may also be included as part of a bullwhip maintenance kit.  Maintenance kits may be extremely useful for new bullwhip owners or people who are unsure about how to properly take care of their whips.

To properly care for and maintain bullwhips, accessories can be invaluable.  Bullwhip accessories include whip bags which can be used to transport or store bullwhips.  Bullwhip bags are specially designed for whips and can fit multiple whips at the same time.  Larger bags may also be purchased for bigger whips.  Other accessories include whip holders that can be used to hold whips in place.  This is great for storage and transportation as well.   Bullwhip maintenance kits can include many other accessories such as Saddle soap for cleaning and polishing leather whips.  Some specific oil pastes may be used to preserve, waterproof and condition leather whips.
